Gorgon is a natural gas project in Western Australia, involving the development of the Greater Gorgon gas fields, subsea gas-gathering infrastructure, and a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant on Barrow Island. The project also includes a domestic gas component to supply gas to Western Australia via a dedicated pipeline. The Gorgon field is about 130 kilometres off the north-west coast of Western Australia, where the water depth is approximately 200m. Barrow Island lies 50km off the Pilbara coast of Western Australia and is an area of environmental significance. Gorgon commenced production in 2016 and will produce 15 million tonnes of LNG per year with production forecast to end between 2054–2074. The project also includes facilities to inject and store CO2 into a deep reservoir unit more than two kilometres beneath Barrow Island.
