The primary driver for the programme was to reduce emissions associated with moving gas around the UK to support EU legislation; added benefits include increased system resilience and reduced overall risk on the National Transmission System by replacing ageing assets with modern, efficient equipment. As both compressors are adjacent on the National Transmission Service, they could not be taken out of service at the same time. A complex delivery programme was used to minimise any impact on the NTS and avoid outages during the winter months. This ensured National Grid’s customers were provided with a seamless service during the project and would benefit from a much enhanced supply when it is completed. LFF Glamal worked closely with COSTAIN to ensure deliveries were met, with vast stock of both Low Temp Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel being a clear advantage for the programme.
